CuraLife, the health-tech company running the “Winning Type 2 Diabetes Together” online support community, has announced a new milestone. Its membership has surpassed 60,000 members making the group the most significant type 2 diabetes support group on Facebook.
Statistics indicate that over 463 million people live with diabetes, becoming the seventh leading cause of death globally. While various management approaches are available, studies show that two out of three people do not achieve their treatment goals. Many of the obstacles patients face come down to the lack of education and access to educational materials and emotional support to initiate and sustain necessary behavioral change.
In 2018, CuraLife launched its online peer-to-peer support group, “Winning Type 2 Diabetes Together,” on Facebook. Over the past year, the group has undergone a 315% increase in growth. Now surpassing 60,000 members, it has become the largest diabetic support group in the world. The members are highly active, with 99% of the content being user-generated with an average of 150,000 monthly comments. As such, patients lead the conversation by discussing their challenges and experiences.
“This is an incredible milestone for our company but also the group members who log on every day and share their wisdom with those who need support. Type 2 diabetes can be an overwhelming condition for many people. The fact that our group helps people all over the world is a reflection of the type of society we want to build and support – one without borders where every patient can feel comfortable sharing their experience, challenges, and successes, all while and getting the love and support they need in a judgment-free environment,” said Ron Elul, Founder, and CEO of CuraLife.
CuraLife has several major initiatives, such as providing educational support that empowers behavioral change and helps people establish new self-management habits. The company confirmed that many type 2 diabetics can create sustainable changes that translate to lasting impacts on their day-to-day lives by encouraging and promoting peer support. The organization is also about to achieve a second milestone with a soon-to-be-announced tech company acquisition.
