Kappa Bioscience is a Norwegian-based company focused on using innovative technology in vitamin production and research. Their flagship product, K2VITAL, is the first human-made menaquinone-7 (MK-7), a synthetically made K2 vitamin.
K2 is an essential fat-soluble protein that helps regulate calcium in our bodies. K2VITAL offers a superior version of vitamin K2 that activates specific proteins in our bodies (osteocalcin) that help incorporate calcium in our skeletal system. It also stimulates the matrix-Gla proteins (MGP) to prevent calcium buildup in the circulatory system, and smooth muscle walls.
Their new Perfect Pair program highlights the benefits of combining vitamin D3 and K2 for heart and bone health. The program offers a series of educational posts and scientific evidence to back their claim that vitamins D3 and K2 have a synergetic effect on each other, meaning that they function more effectively when paired together.
Vitamin D3 is produced by our bodies when we are exposed to sunlight. It can also be found in certain foods or consumed in the form of supplements. Vitamin D3 regulates the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, which is essential for healthy growth and development of bones and teeth. Insufficient amounts of vitamin D3 can lead to conditions such as osteomalacia (soft bones) and osteoporosis (fragile bones).
Studies have also shown that vitamin D can help reduce symptoms of depression, improve immune response, and reduce cardiovascular disease biomarkers in obese patients.
“Vitamin D3 has experienced exceptional consumer awareness and growth in the past decade, and Kappa’s research shows that vitamin K2 enhances D3 opportunity,’’ said Jörg Büttinghaus, VP Kappa Sales & Marketing. He continued, “Our new Perfect Pair program demonstrates scientifically how D3 and K2 work synergistically for optimal bone and heart health. D3 is safer and more effective with K2 to balance calcium in the body. Any formulation that includes D3 can be improved by K2, creating new opportunities for D3 marketers.”
Vitamin D3 is essential for the expression of osteocalcin and MPG proteins, while K2 activates them. That is why the Perfect Pair program incorporates both vitamins for optimal circulatory and skeletal health.
A new Norweigan-study highlights the heart-protective effects of vitamin K2 over vitamin K1. The study followed almost 3000 participants over 11 years to assess their heart health in relation to vitamin K intake. The results showed that participants who consumed higher K2 quantities had a significantly lower chance of developing coronary heart disease (CHD). No such correlation was observed for K1 intake.
These results highlight the importance of vitamin K2, and according to Kappa Bioscience, the combination with vitamin D3 yields additional benefits.
The company has also launched a 5th edition of the K2 Formulation LookBook. The LookBook consists of whitepapers, scientific studies, articles, regulations, and many more resources on vitamin K2. It is the most comprehensive K2 resource available.
